Welcome
To Lacie's Page

I would like to introduce you to Lacie, she is a full blooded Boston Terrier, that has a thicker hair coat than the slick haired Boston's, she is a Boston Terrier Silky. She is not a mixed breed. Her Mother & Father are both AKC, UABR, & ACA registered Boston Terriers.

Lacie is registered with AKC, UABR, and ACA, she was registered as a Boston Terrier before we realized she was a Boston Terrier Silky.
She is called a Boston Terrier Silky because she has a thicker hair coat than the short haired Boston. Her hair has a very soft and silky texture.
Lacie and her Dad have been blood typed, and she has been approved as a Boston Terrier Silky by UABR. Her puppies are registered by UABR also.

Lacie came to us out of a litter of eight. She looked just like her littermates. We didn't notice anything different about her until she was around three weeks old. She was smaller & lighter than the other  puppies, and her hair coat was very soft and smooth.  As she got older she started getting a thicker hair coat.
I started trying to find out why one puppy out of a litter of eight would be different from all the rest. And no... Lacie's Mother was never exposed to any other dog,  other than Lacie's Dad.

I talked to some people who are very knowledgeable about genetics' in animals. As far as I can find out Lacie could be a throwback to the very beginning of the Boston Terrier.

some very informative pages about the early Boston's

History of the Boston Terrier

History of the Boston Terrier

After months of searching I did find some facts:

This breed of dogs originated mostly from smooth coated Boston’s that apparently carried the longhaired trait recessively. Whether they did or not is controversial, but there are some things that are true.
The long hair is always recessive to the smooth coat in every breed
(wire coats are typically dominant to both smooth and long  hair)
Since there is documented proof that the two dogs that were originally bred  to produce the Boston Terrier were not necessarily  purebred much before the turn of the century, it would be no surprise that there were occasional mixture bred into them at various points.
These silky coats would probably never show up in the first generation ( all of the puppies would be smooth, carrying the longhaired trait recessively ) and, if the dog carrying the longhaired trait is not ever bred to another dog carrying that same longhaired trait, then a   " coated " dog was never produced. In this way, the longhaired trait can be carried geneticallyfor many generations without being displayed.

I have bred Lacie's mom & Dad back several times since Lacie, trying get get another puppy like her, without any success. Lacie's Dad & Mom has been bred to a lot of other mates and there has never been another puppy like Lacie born.

As far as I am concerned, Lacie is a gift from God. She is a very loyal, loving friend Lacie is a small, short and stocky dog, her puppies are the same way. Lacie and all of the pups she has had love people of all ages, they are very playful, loyal, and make wonderful companions.

she also has a sense of humor ( eyes shut & tongue out at me )
